State of the SEC (East)

December 2nd, 2008 Matthew Kimel No comments

1. Florida (11-1, 7-1 SEC) will square off against Alabama this weekend in the conference title game and the winner will likely be the No. 1 contender for the BCS title. The Gators only loss came to second-ranked Mississippi in the West division of the Southeastern Conference. Stay tuned for a preview of the big showdown later in the week.

2. Georgia (9-3, 7-1) was ranked No. 1 in the AP poll in the preseason but failed to beat the top two SEC teams (Alabama and Florida) and couldn’t get the job done against intrastate rival Georgia Tech in its season finale. The Bulldogs will play in a bowl game, however, it will not be a BCS game.

If you were too busy with your family on Thanksgiving and somehow missed on out on all the NFL action … CLICK HERE!

December 1st, 2008 Matthew Kimel No comments

Thanksgiving day football was nothing but blowouts.

The Titans 47-10 rout over the Lions made them look like a first place team and the Lions a last place team. It’s sure looking like the Lions will remain winless throughout the entire season.

After Thanksgiving NCAA football polls

December 1st, 2008 Matthew Kimel No comments

AP
No. 1- Alabama finished the season as the No. 1 seed in the polls, however, in my mind, it still has a lot to prove. First it must beat Florida, then it must beat Oklahoma (my prediction) in the BCS title game should Alabama wish to remain No. 1.

No. 2- Florida in my opinion should be No. 1, but since it lost to Mississippi (the blocked extra point), everyone else gives Alabama the edge. I know I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again (and again), the Gators are going to roll over the Tide in the SEC title game (look for more on this in another post).

NFL Predictions Week 13

November 28th, 2008 Matthew Kimel No comments

In case your wondering … I thought the Cowboys and Eagles would win Thursday, as they did. I had picked the Lions to win outright over the Titans, but by now you should now that I (almost) always pick against the Titans, no matter what. So what if it was foolish? I would have loved to have seen it happen.

OK, lets get on to this week’s predictions …

My Top 5:

No. 1- Florida looks much the best to me and will prove that to non-believers when it destroys Alabama in the SEC title game.

Thanksgiving Classic Game of the Week

November 26th, 2008 Matthew Kimel No comments

Forget about the Cowboys and the Seahawks; Two teams that have I have been predicting to lose (almost) every game this season have a special match up on Thanksgiving Thursday. Last week, they both lost.

The Titans (10-1) and the Lions (1-10) may look like a boring game on paper, however, I’m going to go against that and say it’s going to be a close game.

State of the Southeastern Conference (West)

November 25th, 2008 Matthew Kimel No comments

Unless Alabama has a major meltdown this week, only three of the SEC teams from the West will be receiving a bowl bid. Currently, those three are the three eligible for postseason play.

  1. Alabama: The Crimson Tide (11-0, 7-0 SEC) is guaranteed a BCS game, but it is too soon to predict which one they will play in with two games against the Tigers and Gators (SEC title game) ahead. The Tide should roll past the Tigers, but the Gators are going to be a tough, tough match up.
  2. Mississippi: The Rebels (7-4, 4-3) are going to go bowling as well. A win over interstate rival Mississippi State would put Ole Miss in a good position, especially with wins over ranked Florida and LSU. Doesn’t hurt either that it put up a fight against Alabama.
  3. LSU: The Tigers (7-4, 3-4) are a major disappointment this season after winning it all last year. The Tigers nearly lost three games in a row and a loss to a weak Razorbacks squad could possibly push them out of the Top 25. This week is a must-win, and it would only help keep them in their current position in the polls.
  4. Auburn: The Tigers (5-6, 2-5) must beat the top-seeded Crimson Tide just to become bowl-eligible. Their poor conference record is not impressive for a bowl bid, but a win over the Tide would be. Several 6-6 teams will go bowling, the Tigers would have to be one of them if they beat the No. 1 seed.
  5. Mississippi State: The Bulldogs  (4-7, 2-5) will be playing Ole Miss for nothing other than pride. Without six wins, you can’t go anywhere. Maybe next season will be brighter.
  6. Arkansas: The Razorbacks (4-7, 1-6) have the worst conference record of all SEC teams, but could pull of the upset this week against the Tigers based on how poorly the Tigers have played as of late. I mean, common on, LSU almost lost to Troy.

NFL Week 13 Game of the Week

November 25th, 2008 Matthew Kimel No comments

The first place NFC East-leading New York Giants (10-1) will square off against divisional rival Washington Redskins (7-4) in this week’s game of the week.

The showdown will mark the second time the two teams have matched up this season. The Giants beat the Redskins 16-7 in Week 1 at home as Eli Manning threw for 260 yards and ran for one score.

Top-5 AP College Football Teams

November 24th, 2008 Matthew Kimel No comments

No. 1- Alabama ought to be real careful during their bye week. If it starts thinking to much about the SEC title game against No. 3 Florida, it may not get passed Auburn. I’m still not too impressed with the Crimson Tide and I’m expecting them to get blownout by Floriday on 12/06.

No. 2- Texas Tech has passed every test thrown at it (Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma State). The Red Raiders have one last test and I’m expecting them to fail this time even though they are coming off the bye.

The Raiders win … The Titans lose … Week 12 Recap

November 24th, 2008 Matthew Kimel No comments

After picking against them nearly every single week, I finally hit with my prediction of the Titans losing. The Jets’ dominance over the previously-undefeated team has the look of a Super Bowl contender.

The Ravens proved their worthiness of being a playoff contender routing the Eagles 36-7.
