Celebrity-centric blogs fill a gigantic hole in our society: we are hungry for up-to-the-minute updates about our favorite idols in music, film, television, and sports. It keeps us entertained, makes us feel good about ourselves, and ensures that we have something to discuss over the water cooler or the dinner table. As a celebrity blogger, you couldn’t be in a better business. There’s just one problem: there are too many other blogs vying for your readers’ attention.

As you are no doubt aware, competition is fierce. The only way to get ahead is to offer something that other blogs can’t; given the sheer numbers you’re up against, this can be difficult. With entertainment giants like TMZ always on the front lines, it takes a lot to be the first to break a story. Ask any blogger what their biggest advertising woe is, and you’re likely to hear a variation on the same theme: it’s becoming increasingly difficult to feature advertising on your blog without compromising your vision of providing readers with content they enjoy. Most “contextual ads” make about as much sense in context as a machine translation, while affiliate links and programs only appeal to a select group of people. A trivia site without sports trivia is barely a trivia site at all, and that’s why the Kwanzoo Football Trivia Channel has just gone live in time for the ‘08-’09 NFL season.

We’ve loaded 1,500 questions on NFL and NCAA football to start, with new sets going up every week. As with our other channels, we’re running a regular weekly contest. The player with the highest weekly score gets a certificate for Kwanzoo swag, as does an active player chosen at random.

The news on the development front is we’ve put out a Kwanzoo iGoogle widget called “Celebrity Trivia of the Day.” If you’re unfamiliar with iGoogle, it’s Google’s customizable home page. If you’ve got a Gmail account, you already have one.

The widget has five celebrity questions drawn from our database daily, a pleasant diversion over your morning coffee, hopefully.

Evening, everyone. Here’s what’s going on at our little ol’ startup.

Some of our people were up at the Casual Games Conference in Seattle this week, meeting with media sites and casual gaming portals. We got some very positive feedback on Kwanzoo’s quiz widgets from attendees.

We’ve done a little rearranging of the blog, starting a new “featured” category to showcase some of our better efforts. We’re going to be doing more and more interviews as time goes on, and most if not all of them will go in there.
