Valkyria Chronicles is out

November 5th, 2008 Matthew Boyd No comments

While we already reviewed the Japanese version of this, I just want to remind everyone so it doesn’t fall through the cracks during this packed holiday season.

I’ve gotta tell you, you’re going to want to turn on the Japanese language track and subtitles, though.

Lessons Learned from “The War Room”

October 21st, 2008 Liz N. No comments

It’s no secret that politics tend to stay the same year to year. I think we all know, deep down inside, that no matter how sick we are of the whole thing, politics will always be the same ugly game. But every once a while, it’s interesting to watch how things really don’t ever change.

Recently, the Sundance Channel showed the Oscar-nominated documentary The War Room, which chronicles the strivings of the Clinton campaign workers in 1992. James Carville, George Stephanopoulos, and a hoard of interns swarming around the water cooler are the main characters, with cameos by Bill, Hillary, and - of course - George H.W. Bush.

Video game de-makes

September 21st, 2008 Matthew Boyd No comments

To put it simply, a demake is the opposite of a remake. You take an original modern game, and you reimagine it as a game made for a much older generation of hardware.

For example, take Soundless Mountain II. You guessed it, it’s a demake of Silent Hill 2.

Fall Pilot Review: CW’s 90210

September 12th, 2008 Liz N. 1 comment

I know, I know, I’m late to the game on this one. In my defense, the pilot was two hours long and I’m a busy individual, so it just sat, half-watched, on my DVR for quite a while. But I’ve finally finished, and I’m ready to foist my opinions on the world.

Well, meh.

The Political Landscape Has Lots of Weird Bumps–Sebastien Pennyworth III

September 12th, 2008 Steve Anderson No comments

Whilst trolling for bizarre candidacies, I’ve been running across job lots of perplexing candidates whose sole purpose seems to be to run this country in the most outlandish fashion possible.  Given the last eight years, of course, this remains to be seen whether any of these candidates is actually less qualified than our current president.

And in that time, I’ve found a kitten that wants to dismantle the US Military, a newborn baby who wants to never stop fighting, the current head of an intergalactic confederation who wants to destroy Scientology, and now, a new…um…high point–a PUPPET. The more political among you might well ask, what’s the difference?  This particular puppet seems to be running based on the knowledge that he is, somehow, our genetic superior.

Tim Pawlenty engages in the most ironic of crimes

September 1st, 2008 Matthew Boyd No comments

You may have heard Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty’s name being bandied about as a possible pick for McCain’s vice presidential candidate. More recently, he showed up GamePolitics.

So, what part of this story involves video games? Well, he has an anti-video game history, having signed into law one of those laws controlling video games that got slapped down by the courts as unconstitutional. Secondly, the stolen van he was riding around in had an Xbox installed in it.

Some are less than happy about Diablo III’s looks

July 1st, 2008 Matthew Boyd 1 comment

So, there’s a petition up protesting the art direction of Diablo III. People are complaining it’s not dark enough and looks too much like World of Warcraft.

A few points:

June 17th, 2008 Matthew Boyd No comments

I’d like to tell you about another Japanese game that’s been in heavy rotation on the house PS3 this week: Valkyria Chronicles, due out in the U.S. this fall.

Valkyria Chronicles is a strategy game takes place in a fictional universe where most of the technology is at WWII levels but with a bit of fantasy supertech thrown in. You command a squad of soldiers fighting off an invasion from a neighboring country.

Spore Creature Creator Demo Leaked Early

June 16th, 2008 Matthew Boyd 1 comment

The demo for the Spore Creature Creator has leaked early, with the actual Creator Creator due a day late on the 18th.

It’s a testament to how good it is that I’m actually considering paying the $10 for the only marginally more functional full version.

Movie Trivia: Charlize Theron, Raging Hypocrite

June 13th, 2008 Steve Anderson No comments

As a member of the vast horrible left-wing conspiracy that is the media, I love it–LOVE it!–when CLUELESS IDIOT CELEBRITIES like Charlize Theron hand me stories. Check out her anti-media rant from my co-conspirators at WENN:

Oscar winner Charlize Theron has blasted celebrities who constantly court media attention - branding their attitude “ugly”. The actress is sick of fame-obsessed stars, insisting she finds it “sad” to see people strive to be paparazzi fodder.
