It’s true, it’s true, folks! The hugely popular Xbox Live Arcade game is getting a sequel, and it’s been confirmed via the Australian Government, of all places.

Granted, it’s no graphical powerhouse or blood-soaked nightmare or deep and involving role-playing experience, but what it is is an endlessly fun little game where you slide around a small field in a boxy little spacecraft and blast assorted shapes into pixellated dust. You do this for as long as you can (or just four minutes in the demo version I got with my Xbox 360 hard drive) and attempt to rack up the biggest score possible.

It takes me back, really–back to the old eight-bit days of gaming when games didn’t have a point and just went on and on and on into gaming infinity or you just couldn’t keep going. And there’s something to be said for the occasional shot of nostalgia and, of course, the introduction of this strange new element to the younger gaming crowd.

But either way, I’m looking forward to it and you should be too.
