George Romero Fans, Brace Yourselves.
Whilst camped out at horror-movies.ca, I found a strange and vaguely ominous bit of news waiting for me to seize upon and start talking about. Check out this dose of weird:
Dread Central received word that Taurus Entertainment just finished filming a pilot episode with Wilmer Valderrama at the helm! Michael Madsen and Wendi McLendon-Covey star. The entire series is said to air on MIP TV. Which I have no idea if its some online station or what.. Still couldn’t tell after checking out their official website. But moments later HDFilms contacted them and said that the dreadful folks over at Taurus Entertainment (Day of the Dead 2, Creepshow 3) were merely Executive producing and have no creative control. So the plot thickens. Apparently in a press release by Taurus they called the show Creepshow: The Series. HD Films denies that and say the show is really called Creepshow Raw.
Now we can all start biting our nails, and not because we’re scared, either. Now, we’re just worried… real, REAL worried. Taurus has been committing horrible atrocities with… former… Romero properties since it bought them out from underneath a poor guy who just needed to eat. The fact that they’re involved, even with something so simple as executive producing, is horrible news on par with anything we’ve ever heard.
But… and I emphasize but…the story is true that Taurus has no creative control and is just leasing out the names for cash, then this may not end up as horrible as we all feared. The fact that they’re even there at all, however, suggests the very worst. So what’s left to us? Not much, except to watch, and wait.
While we wait, we can remember when Romero projects were Romero’s alone, and enjoy the recent resurgence by playing the Dead series trivia on Kwanzoo.
