GTA Staying on the Small Screen
I love when companies do the right thing. Despite owning the biggest franchise in gaming, and one of the biggest franchises in all of entertainment, Rocktstar is not being suckered in by Hollywood’s fool’s gold. They will keep Grand Theft Auto right where it belong: on video game systems. In a rare act of sanity in a business fueled by greedy cash grabbers, Rockstar has latched on to their precious franchise and will not let go until the scary movie people leave them alone.
How lame would a GTA game be? Most of the stories are ripped straight from the script of Scarface and The Godfather. Sure, it’s a good enough story to get players from one mission to the next, but it’s hardly a selling point. People want to experience the freedom of driving around a realistic city, choosing to do things that are simply not possible in real life. It would be impossible to cram the GTA experience into a non-interactive medium.
Though I do wonder what will happen when video game developers refuse to let their games be butchered and comic books have been squeezed dry. Where will the movie industry go for its summer blockbuster?
