News of The Dark Knight has been respectfully quiet since the passing of Heath Ledger, leaving the airwaves (interwaves?) free for discussion of other upcoming blockbusters. But marketing seems to have ratcheted up a bit once more, focusing, as many predicted, on Harvey Dent instead of the Joker.

Updates to the viral site “I Believe in Harvey Dent” have invited his supporters to send their phone numbers, which results in a recorded call from Dent thanking them for their support. Your email address is welcomed as well, but so far the only messages received by fans have been:

Citizens of Gotham! The future of our city rests in your hands!

Alone, we are helpless against the thugs and killers menacing our city.

Together, we have the power to take back Gotham.

Exactly how much effort will be put into the next stages of viral marketing is unclear. This is, after all, a Batman movie, which sells itself. It doesn’t call for - nor will it get - an elaborate Cloverfield-style backstory. However, there will definitely be enough to keep fans busy and interested until the July 18th release date.
