Insomnifest–The Next Big Horror Movie Festival?

The next After Dark Horror Fest? Maybe, if you brought a lawyer….I’m a bit biased on this one, I confess. I’m terribly fond of the After Dark Horror Fest, believing that it comprises some of the best horror flicks out in the field today with some truly spectacular material. And so, it definitely draws my interest to hear about another festival in the making–Insomnifest.

Up All Night With Insomnifest

Okay…brace yourselves, kids…because Insomnifest is something truly special. Film festivals and conventions are great except for one significant problem. Namely, other people.

You get to smell things you thought you’d never smell outside of the third world and hang out with the people who generate those smells. And you pay outrageous prices to do it!

So I guess it’s something of a surprise that Insomnifest went to the lengths it did to make a film festival that doesn’t require human contact! That’s right, o my readership, it’s totally, completely ONLINE!!!

The Three Exclamation Points Stand For Total Amazement

Okay, I’m amazed. A totally online film festival? That’s not a half bad idea. It’s conceivable that you could rally the entire horror film community behind such a move–and I kid you not it is a monster community. You’re all part of it just because you read this.

But all is not well in horror town–the movies will cost you five bucks a crack to see, and as of this point, you are only allowed to stream said videos rather than download them. There is in fact very very pointed legalese targeted at anyone who might want to actually watch the movie at a later date instead of the date it was streamed.

Just reading the legal disclaimers had me sweating like O.J. at a sports memorabilia show.

Look, guys…this is a great idea. No mistake. Get us exposed to some of the biggest or potentially biggest new names in horror? Not a bad idea at all. But for crying out loud, don’t go all RIAA on us, screaming about lawsuits and legal action before we walk in the door! Think about it. Would you eat at a restaurant that welcomed you with:

“Taking home leftovers is ILLEGAL and we WILL be taking legal actions against anyone who tries to remove food from this establishment! Instead, we hope you will come back and support us so we can stay open next year.”

Sure I will! I love exposing myself to complex legal situations for little payoff!

Okay, so we’re just getting started, and there’s always a shakedown period in anything new. But I’m looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Hopefully, we may be on the threshold of a whole new paradigm in horror viewing.

And for a whole new paradigm in horror movie trivia, well, you know where to get that. Right here on Kwanzoo, that’s where, fright fans! ‘Scuse me while I cackle like the Cryptkeeper.
