Building a startup from the ground up is fun. Its also very consuming! For us here at Kwanzoo, it’s been an interesting journey. It all started in the summer of 2006. Yes, it has been that long! More on that later. It has been many twists and turns along the way. In this new series of articles I hope to share our journey with all our friends, old and new.

Kwanzoo is my second startup. Someone once said, a second startup is like watching a movie all over again. You know the plot. You know what’s going to happen next. You can speed through the parts you know well, and focus on what you really enjoyed about the movie. Catch some cool dialog in sharp detail and have a laugh! Catch the little nuances in different scenes, the camera angles, the acting, the background detail. Is a second startup the same way?

Sure what you already know helps. But to me a second startup done right is more like a well-made sequel! Your cast and crew from the first movie may join you again! But the setting is different, and the plot is new. The sequel has got to stand and work on it’s own! And finally, if the audience does not show up, it’s end of story! So here we are. We have the initial rushes to show you! We are furiously editing, finishing post-production.

There is the important matter of landing our first distribution deal (a.k.a. angel/VC financing in startup land) so our movie can find the millions of viewers (well, social trivia game players really) who might like it! Our Opening Night is still some time away. When exactly? Well, that’s where you come in. With every click of the mouse on our site, and every comment in your profile about what you think about the site, and every friend that you tell about our little movie, you would be helping us keep on pushing ahead!
