Nelson Mandela once said, “our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” It’s a difficult, controversial, and important message - not exactly the type of moral you’d expect from an animated kid’s movie.

The IncrediblesThen, The Incredibles came along.

With stunning animation and a talented cast, this new Disney classic dared to ask: what happened to all the superheroes?

Turns out they’re still around, living normal lives, and trying to appear normal to others. While Mr. Incredible’s strength occasionally betrays him, and son Dash longs to use his superspeed in school competitions, by and large, The Incredibles are successful in their covert existence. That is, until a villain sets a trap to take Mr. Incredible down once and for all.

Did You Know?

The city in which The Incredibles takes place, Metroville, is named after Metropolis (Superman’s hometown) and Smallville (where he was raised).

Sarah Vowell, the voice of young Violet in The Incredibles, was discovered during one of her regular contributions to NPR’s “This American Life.” She had never acted before, and was reluctant to take the job. To convince her, the filmmakers animated one of her radio segments and sent it to her.

Since DC comics already owned a character called Elasti-Girl, they objected to Mrs. Incredible’s superhero name in The Incredibles. A compromise was reached: outside of the film, she would be referred to exclusively by her married name.
