Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Review

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance GameplayMarvel: Ultimate Alliance is a game I have had on my shelf for quite some time, but it does not have the same pull as a lot of other games. With the lack of other co-op games I turn my attention to Marvel: Ultimate Alliance as the sequel Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion is fast approaching.

The target audience of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is a bit of a mystery to me, though the same can be said about the similar X-Men: Legends games. Throughout the game the player is bombarded with facts about Marvel characters. Realistically, the diehard Marvel fans know most of these facts already. The gamers that don’t already know this much about the Marvel universe may not want to.

The greatest feature of the game is one that is not seen in many games, the ability to have 4-person co-op story mode on a single screen. With a well coordinated group of players, this leads to some swift gameplay. The unique combos are designed to work when more than one player’s attacks are synchronized. On the other hand, with the wrong group of players this can be aggravating when players are heading in two different directions and the field of view can only stretch so much.

All in all, this is not a game for everyone. If you’re a Gauntlet fan that wants to learn more about the Marvel universe then this may be the game for you. Otherwise, there a good many games I can recommend you try before this one.
