Movie Trivia: David–Twisted Pictures Gets One Right??
Really scared—check out this quote about David, an upcoming film “inspired by true events”:
“I wanted to bring horror back to it’s roots like horror in the 70’s when they set out to really scare you psychologically. David is a cross between The Amityville horror and The Changeling. This isn’t the going to be the typical MTV style of horror of today with lots of quick cuts and loud noises to make the audience jump. David is all about slowly building the suspense factor then climaxing to a really disturbing final act. It’s the kind of story that burrows deep under your skin and stays with you long after you left the theater”.
Sounds good, right? Sure it does—it’s not every day you get a plotline like that put in front of you. And crossing The Changeling with The Amityville Horror? Wow. But the part that’s really scary is when you hear where it’s from.
Twisted Pictures.
Twisted Pictures! The guys who drove SAW into the ground! Can you believe it? I sure can’t! Man, if I woke up tomorrow morning with my head sewn to the carpet I wouldn’t be any more surprised than I am right now. That and I love Christmas Vacation.
But anyway! Twisted Pictures offering up a doozy like this? Wonders never cease, and I can’t wait to find out how it goes. Of course, I’ll have to—shooting won’t even start until late summer, so it might be out in time for Halloween. Maybe.

I think the Saw series works better if you don’t think of them as horror movies, because they’re really not. Maybe thrillers, expect that puts them in the same category as Silence of the Lambs, and they can’t stand up to that kind of scrutiny. Thrillers for Stupid People, maybe?
I like Saw for what it is. And it’s not much, admittedly, but I don’t think you can pin its shortcomings onto Twisted Pictures, who is just trying to make some money.
Sorry Liz–no sale. If Twisted wanted to escape culpability for the dreck the series has become they would’ve either improved the scripts or they wouldn’t have released the fourth one. They definitely wouldn’t be involved in the FIFTH one. I won’t pin ALL the shortcomings on Twisted–that would be grossly unfair since LGF and Wan and Whannell and Bousman and everyone else involved has a stake but Twisted isn’t without blame.
