Some moviegoers dismay me somewhat–it’s as though they don’t know what they want in a movie and thus go to a movie that clearly doesn’t offer what they want just so they can badmouth it later.  Such is the case with Iron Man, a movie that’s been unsettlingly well received by most of the critical community and, not surprisingly, by me too.

I’ll be honest with you, I loved Iron Man.  Of course, I went into Iron Man not expecting rational plotlines or sensible dialogue or character development.  I went to see Tony Stark kick ass in the Iron Man suit, and indeed, Iron Man delivered.  Even better, I got some laughs out of the deal–the overreacting fire extinguisher robot is the best joke in the movie.

Oh, sure…they could’ve done so much more.  But this is the first of at least a trilogy, so the word goes.  Robert Downey Jr. meanwhile was once overheard to say he’d do as many as fourteen sequels, and based on how far back the comic goes I don’t call this an idle boast.  By the time you get MODOK and Fin Fang Foom and Titanium Man and all the rest of the many, many bad guys Iron Man has tackled, you could probably go up to Iron Man Fifteen: Back To the Junkyard without a fight.  And many of them would probably offer that same element of spectacle that made Iron Man so eminently watchable. 

You’re here to watch Iron Man kick ass, and as long as Iron Man does not fail to kick ass, Iron Man will not disappoint.

Nor will, parenthetically, the Iron Man trivia on Kwanzoo.
