Movie Trivia: Is September the New January?

SeptemberIs September the new January? Well, that’s sort of a subjective concept…but with what movies are coming out, it’s definitely starting to look that way. I can understand why September would be regarded as a bad month for movies: the summer blockbuster season is pretty much out of steam, it’s some of the hottest and stickiest weather of the year, no one even wants to move let alone drag themselves to the movies, the kids go back to school and it’s a whole month before the start of prime horror movie season, Halloween, and by extension, winter. September could easily be regarded as a burnout month, or a month to recover before the next burst of movies goes out.

For instance, Paramount is coming out with upcoming release Ghost Town, a movie about a dentist who dies—only briefly, but still—during a routine dental surgery. He’s brought back to life, and as a result of his brief drive-by past the afterlife, he gains the ability to see the dead. The dead, of course, ask for his help in contacting the living.

This is, of course, almost identical to a Malaysian horror rom-com called “My Left Eye Sees Ghosts”, which was funny and kinda sappy and not really that scary, which might make it a good date movie, especially for guys who’d rather experience dental surgery than sit through a chick flick.
