Movie Trivia: Maggie Gyllenhaal Talks “The Dark Knight”
Unlike her brother Jake, Maggie Gyllenhaal has never sought her big break. Being a face known mostly by movie buffs was enough for her, and so she starred exclusively in independent cult hits like Secretary and Stranger Than Fiction. Her most prominent recent film is World Trade Center. So why has this lanky girl taken the leap into big-budget action?
Replacing Katie Holmes for The Dark Knight will be no small feat. In an exclusive interview with Superhero Hype, Gyllenhaal discussed a few aspects of filming and whether or not she expected audiences to accept her as Rachel Dawes (yes - “how many Batmen have their been? Lots of them!”).
When asked if she had begun to feel the pressure of being a bonafide star, Gyllenhaal said, “It hasn’t really started yet, that craziness. I imagine it will and I’ll just take it as it comes, that kind of thing, and in terms of the actual making of it, I anticipated it was going to be much different than making a small movie, and in the end, it didn’t feel that way, and I think it was because I was working with really good actors like Gary Oldman and Michael Caine and Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart and Heath Ledger. It felt like making any other movie, and I think Chris Nolan has a lot to do with that, and also because he really likes and respects actors, so it felt like doing good scenes in any movie.”
Having made a surprise appearance at ShoWest in Vegas, Maggie Gyllenhaal was soon whisked off to participate in some last-minute events. The Dark Knight will hit theaters on July 18th - in the meantime, play some Batman Begins trivia!
