Movie Trivia: Quotes You Hate to Love
Very, very rare indeed is the movie so bad that you can’t find at least one enjoyable aspect. Whether it’s the music, the cinematography, or the cast, there’s always something. Sometimes, it’s just a single line.
Plenty of badly-received, badly-reviewed movies still have a single line that is destined to be quoted for years and years.
“The world moves for love. It kneels before it in awe.”
Some people (like me) genuinely enjoyed The Village, but most people were angered by it. No matter how you felt about it, or how pretentious some of the dialogue might be, the deceptive simplicity of this statement has probably graced more than one wedding invitation since the movie’s release.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
“However, there might be a slight inconvenience as you will be riding on a cargo plane full of live poultry.”
Pretty much universally agreed to be the worst of the trilogy, Temple of Doom nevertheless contains a few gems (if you can endure the incessant whining of “Willie”). This, in particular, is delightfully understated and probably even funnier out of context. Try to use it in conversation sometime, won’t you?
“Well, that’s good news - snakes on crack.”
Oh, SoaP. Another in a long line of viral marketing “successes,” it succeeded mostly in disappointing people’s overblown expectations. However, that’s not to say it didn’t have its charms - Samuel L. Jackson versus a whole bunch of snakes. It can’t go too far wrong. And this particular line is both amusing and uplifting; no matter what your distasteful tasks for the day, at least you’re not dealing with snakes on crack.
