Just in case you haven’t visited any websites with advertising in the past few weeks, I’d better tell you about Simon Pegg’s recent starring role - as the titular character in Run Fatboy Run. He plays a former runaway groom who tries to win back his ex-fiancée by running a marathon. Naturally.

Between this and How to Lose Friends… it’s beginning to seem as if Pegg only used his niche British comedies (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) as a foot in the door. Now that American audiences know him, he’s perfectly content to star in very American comedies - alongside the likes of Kirsten Dunst and, in this case, Thandie Newton. Oh, and can you get more American than being directed by David Schwimmer?

Despite this, Run Fatboy Run got its UK release last year, while we Yanks are still waiting around for our turn. British critics were not charmed: a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes may not sound too bad, but it leads to an unforgiving “rotten.”

On March 28th, we’ll all have the chance to judge this zany romantic comedy for ourselves. Pegg fans will want to check it out, especially since Shaun of the Dead’s Dylan Moran plays Pegg’s best mate. Just don’t expect too much.
