Movie Trivia: The Coen Bros. Return to Comedy with “Burn After Reading”

After their Oscar-winning foray into drama with No Country for Old Men, Joel and Ethan Coen are returning to their Fargo roots with upcoming comedy Burn After Reading.

FirstShowing.net reports:

Burn centers on Osbourne Cox (Malkovich), who has hit a bit of rough patch. He was recently fired from the CIA and decides to write his memoirs, naturally documenting government secrets along the way. His wife (Swinton) decides to steal the material to use in their upcoming divorce proceedings, but the CD mistakenly ends up in the hands of two doltish gym employees, Chad (Pitt) and Linda (McDormand). In response to Linda and Chad conspiring to sell the material to help pay for Linda’s plastic surgery, the CIA dispatches Harry (Clooney) to sort it all out at whatever the cost.

Several publicity photos, featuring Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton, George Clooney, and John Malkovich are also available in the article. They serve to highlight not only the all-star cast, but also the comedic undertone of the film.

After their phenomenal partnership in Michael Clayton, it will be good to see Swinton vs. Clooney once again - although if one of those pictures is any indication, their relationship might be a little more cordial than it was the first time around.

When it comes to supporting actors, Brad Pitt is always a unique and energetic presence. I can’t decide: does he get the short shrift for being seen as a pretty boy, or is he just so pretty that I can’t imagine him being respected as an actor? Though many claim he is underappreciated, I’ve never met a film fan who didn’t appreciate him. His supporting roles in films like True Romance and 12 Monkeys indicate, not only his range as an actor, but also his massive talent. He can only make Burn After Reading better.

Burn will open on September 12th of this year.
