Movie Trivia: The Movie Formerly Known as Starship Dave
Lately, the cast of the cult T.V. series Mystery Science Theater 3000 has been getting around. Mike Nelson, the second host, has been producing his own “Rifftrax,” MP3s featuring humorous commentary meant to be played simultaneously with various films, big-budget and otherwise. Puppeteers and voice actors Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy have joined him, while original host Joel Hodgson teamed up with villainess Mary Jo Pehl and former villain/puppeteer Trace Beaulieu to form Cinematic Titanic, a similar venture.
But lest you think they’re all stuck in the past, it turns out that Bill Corbett, the second voice of Crow T. Robot, has something else entirely going on. He’s teamed up with popular comic actor and Razzie winner Eddie Murphy for a film you might have heard about - Meet Dave.
Meet Dave was originally called Starship Dave, and, as the old title implies, it involves a man who is being controlled by aliens. Sort of. Eddie Murphy plays dual roles (not again!) as both a tiny alien and the huge, man-shaped ship they arrive in.
Corbett co-wrote this wacky adventure, which should assure the film a certain cult audience. But will John Q. Filmgoer be prepared to forgive Eddie Murphy for the abomination that was Norbit? Only time will tell.
In the meantime, check out the trailer for Meet Dave and play some Mystery Science Theater 3000 trivia.

My eyes deceive me. An Eddie Murphy movie that might be GOOD? I haven’t seen one of those since…um…since…Beverly Hills Cop, maybe?
