Amazingly enough, I’m starting to get some begrudging sort of respect for Michael Bay and his godawful Friday the 13th remake. Because although it’s still jam-packed with logical inconsistencies and plot holes that can be seen from orbit, they’re at least trying to fix their mistakes.

How can I tell? Easy. Because although there’s a fully-grown Jason doing the killing in this one, at least he’ll be starting with a bag mask.

Okay. I know, that’s not much of a relief, but when you think about it a specific way, it actually becomes something worthy of, like I said, begrudging respect. It looks more and more like what Michael Bay and company are doing is making not so much a remake of the original as a remake-slash-overview of the first three. They’ll go from dead Jason to Jason back from the dead to Jason with a bag mask to Jason with the now-everpresent hockey mask.

And that’s at least somewhat interesting, if only in concept, so I now have to swallow just a smidgen of my pride and eat a teensy morsel of crow, because the Friday the 13th remake might be better than I ever suspected. Better than I even dared to hope, really.
