Movie Trivia: Those Who Fail to Learn From History Are Doomed To Watch Spider-Man 4.

But apparently, Sam Raimi might well be learning, because his own position on coming back to direct is tenuous at best. Check out what Raimi had to say in a quote from the boys at Movieweb:

“Right now James Vanderbilt is writing the script, and he’s working on it, and I’m excited to read it,” Raimi said. “I think it’s going to be done in a few months. I’m hoping it’s as great as our discussions were about it and hoping it feels right for me, because I love Spider-Man, and I’m hoping I’m well-enough rested to, like, really embrace it and hoping that Sony wants me at that time to direct it. So if all those things come together, I would love, love to do it. But this is a lot of unknowns about the future.”

This may not sound like a man in consideration, but phrases like “I’m waiting to read the script” and “this is a lot of unknowns about the future” speak volumes. There’s a really good chance Raimi is getting out of the Spider-Man game.

And frankly, I couldn’t be happier to hear it. With things like a horror-themed reality show in the works and some early word on a remake of The Evil Dead, Sam Raimi’s got vastly, VASTLY, better things to do with his time than flog a dead horse. And Spider-Man is definitely a dead horse.
