Movie trivia: Troubles At Tartan
I’ve got some bad news for everybody…but it may not be as bad of news as we think.
One of the biggest importers of Asian horror titles in the United States, Tartan, has recently just announced that they’re having some serious financial problems, and that they’re selling off assets at a rapid pace.
Let’s be clear—we NEED Tartan. Tartan is pretty much the reason we could even see Shutter in the States, let alone get it to the point where it earns a remake. And Tartan owns some serious-grade names: Lady Vengeance and Oldboy are just two on the list, and of course, Shutter’s there too. If Tartan folds up who knows what’s going to happen to our Asian horror feeds.
But—like I alluded to in the beginning—this could actually be a blessing in disguise. If Tartan sells its major name properties like Lady Vengeance and Oldboy for some serious cash (can you picture Lions Gate or something doing a Lady Vengeance or Oldboy remake?), that means they could get the necessary geetus behind them to pull in even MORE names from the Asian horror circuit, and give us even more great opportunities to watch! And that’s good news no matter how you cut it.
