I want you to know up front on this one that I am, almost, totally talking out of my ass on this one.  I have very, VERY, little evidence to support this which is why I’m putting it forth as a guess.

I’m beginning to wonder if Repo! The Genetic Opera, Paris Hilton notwithstanding, is going to bypass theatres entirely and go straight to video.  There are already some people who think that Repo! will get a tiny theatrical release and THEN go to video.  This is very, very possible–and probably more likely than my own guess–but I’ve got one interesting bit of data that nudged me over into the “no theatrical release” category.

We now know that the DVD will be released in January.  The current projected release date for Repo! is November 7, 2008, and this date has been changed more than once.  Considering that Saw V will be released theatrically roughly a week or two before that, I maintain there’s a half-decent chance that Lions Gate will pull the theatrical release entirely and just let the whole thing roll over to direct to video. That is a TINY window between release and DVD date, and that makes things just a bit more suspicious, at least to me.

Like I said, I could easily be jumping at shadows here, but even people totally opposed to this view have to admit–the history of Repo! The Genetic Opera has been, at best, liquid.

And at worst, downright schizophrenic.
