New Shows: LAPD, Blonde, Supermanny
ABC, NBC, and Lifetime all have some new shows planned in the near future, and those of us who plan to spend many hours planted on the sofa in front of the T.V. this fall should be aware of them. It’s our duty as citizens of T.V. Land.
First up, we have ABC’s new Supernanny spinoff - Supermanny. Get it? Because the nanny is a man. But he’s not really a nanny, he’s a “gruff” child therapist (…okay) who will make an effort to “connect with the dads” and whip them into shape as parents. I made that last part up, but I really hope he wears a drill sergeant uniform and screams a lot. I can’t picture the show going any other way. Look for a pilot this fall.
And because we don’t have enough vapid reality T.V., Lifetime is stepping in with “Blonde Charity Mafia.” Yeah, I know, it sounds like it was retranslated from the original Japanese without regard to English grammar, but apparently that’s the real title. And apparently it’s about “an exclusive group of young women who make the rounds of Washington’s social circuit. The show will feature Katherine Kennedy and Krista Johnson, who are said to throw hot-ticket charity functions, as well as their acquaintance Sophie Pyle, who always is in attendance at the events.” It’s also supposed to be “unscripted,” although I imagine it will be unscripted in the same way that Laguna Beach was unscripted. “Okay, talk about the guy you both have a crush on. And…action.”
Finally, NBC is producing a new drama called “LAPD.” They’ve just recently cast the pilot, with Regina King, Kevin Alejandro and Michael McGrady. They’re all T.V. actors you might possibly recognize. Regina was on 24! All three of them will be playing detectives, and I can’t find much else about the show. Given that the pilot’s just recently been cast, I’ll assume it’s going to be a mid-season start rather than a fall offering. But who knows?
So far the only show I think I’d actually watch is Supermanny. I’m a sucker for shows about professionals bursting into people’s homes and teaching them basic skills like parenting and caring for a dog. Can’t wait for this fall!
