Newest Freddy Remake Rumor Is Likely A Load

But I have to talk about it anyway because we’re all pretty big on the horror around here, and frankly, it makes a downright nifty topic of conversation anyway.

Apparently, there’s some movement regarding just who will take over the slot of Freddy Krueger, assuming Platinum Dunes manages to get the rights to do a remake, something I personally never hope happens because these schmucks have shown themselves to have all the horror knowledge and appreciation for the art as a tuna sandwich.

But what is it this time that’s got me so defnitely torqued but at the same time shaking my head wryly?  Simple–that Freddy Krueger rumor?  No less a bizarre personage than Billy Bob Thornton.

At this point, I’m obliged to say something–anything!–about the nature of this announcement, but I’m so thoroughly amazed by this that I’m thunderstruck.  Good move?  Frankly, I can’t see it.   The only thing CLOSE to a horror film Billy Bob’s been in that I can find is “Chopper Chicks in Zombietown”.  This does NOT by any stretch of the imagination qualify one to step in and play one of the three most iconic figures in horror film history for the last thirty years.  Not even close.

Chances are this is a rumor designed to get us all honked off beyond all reckoning and talking about it so the bastards in charge can claim they’ve got press support, never mind that it’ll be almost universally negative.

Which indeed it is–if they put him in charge I may well skip the whole thing entirely, professional obligations or no.  It’s patently ludicrous that they would do something like that.

In fact, it’s SO very ludicrous that I can’t even imagine dullards like this capable of such stupidity.

So, smart money says this is a long shot to top all long shots, and even smarter money is throwing up its hands in resignation and going off to play Nightmare on Elm Street trivia on Kwanzoo.
