No 007 till 008, But That’s Okay With Me

The marketing for a 2007 James Bond film practically writes itself. Despite this, filmmakers decided to take their time and plan for a 2008 release. The script was finished a scant week before the writer’s strike, and everything is proceeding as planned. Come in, 007.

James BondBond 22’s title has not yet been released, but we know that it picks up right where Casino Royale left off. Bond will begin his mission of revenge after the tragic events that closed the last film, and we will see him evolve into the “blunt instrument” we know and love.

Many rabid fans were disappointed when it was announced that 007 wouldn’t be back until 2008. Me? I’m fine with waiting, just so long as Bond 22 lives up to Bond 21. Daniel Craig’s energetic performance and a fresh script breathed new life into the franchise, just when it looked to be fading into ridiculousness. Casino Royale will be hard to top, and next year, we’ll find out if it’s possible at all.

Did You Know?

Casino Royale was the first James Bond film based on a novel by the character’s creator, Ian Fleming, in twenty-three years.

Daniel Craig is the youngest James Bond since George Lazenby in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

When Daniel Craig was initially cast in the role, there was a massive backlash against him in the media and in certain sub-groups of the Bond fan base. Targets of criticism included his blond hair, rugged face, and a previous role in which he portrayed a gay man.
