No More Cloverfield??
The word’s come out of Bloody-Disgusting, folks…apparently, there’s a pretty good chance that the American Godzilla maniac fun that was Cloverfield might not be getting a sequel after all.
At least, not any time soon.
Which, frankly, leaves me a bit nonplussed but otherwise confused. This sucker took in positively monolithic piles of fat loots at the box office–why on earth are they not following standard Hollywood protocol and milking the cash cow until it bleeds to death? Not that I didn’t like Cloverfield, but it wasn’t SO great to me that it DEMANDED a sequel. I probably would’ve gone, sure, but I’m not all that saddened by the lack. What I AM, however, is somewhat baffled.
J.J. Abrams, apparently, isn’t even all that interested in coming back for more–made especially clear by the fact he’s already looking at doing television. And all involved say they’re not getting involved unless there’s a good idea making everything tick. This is not standard…far from it. Are we witnessing a revolution here? Do Abrams and company have the right idea and it’s so outlandish that it SOUNDS weird? Man, I don’t know, but I’m freaked out all the same.
But we’ll always have the Cloverfield trivia waiting in the wings, ready to go at a moment’s notice!
