Pirates of the Caribbean: At Trilogy’s End
It’s official: Pirates of the Caribbean, an unlikely adventure saga based on a popular Disneyland ride, has come to a close. With the December 4th release of the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End DVD, eager fans have finally learned the ultimate fates of Will, Elizabeth, and Jack.
It is a worthy end. Keith Richards, flattered that Johnny Depp had based his character on the rock star, appears briefly as Captain Jack’s father.
Geoffrey Rush returns as Captain Barbossa, to help carry the film until Jack’s friends are able to rescue him from his purgatory-like prison. The crew ventures to the underworld, Elizabeth becomes the pirate king, and Will must decide between his love and his destiny.
Did You Know?
At different times in history, there were actual “pirate councils” such as the one portrayed in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.
One of the rings Captain Barbossa wears is actually an Eagle Scout ring, which signifies that a Boy Scout has reached the highest possible rank.
“The Green Flash,” spoken of in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, is a rare optical phenomenon that involves the refraction of light in the atmosphere.
At the beginning of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney theme parks, the boat falls down a waterfall-like drop just after a ghostly voice states “dead men tell no tales.” In Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, the Black Pearl plunges over a waterfall, and the phrase from the ride is heard as the screen fades to black.
