Jessica Biel, who despite all logic and common sense, still has a career, but I think it’s finally starting to take on water. She’s gone to voice actress, you see, and will be playing the female lead (and probably the main male character’s love interest too), of Neera in the all-CG-spectacular Planet 51.

Why was I thinking Titan A.E. right from the start? Oh, yeah, because that’s what it sounds like. The inevitable tanking of Planet 51 looks to start in July 2009, which at least will give it a chance at the box office because its target audience will be out of school and looking for a way to blow an hour and a half on something that doesn’t involve studying.

Of course, give it fair credit, there’s always the outside chance that Shrek lightning will strike twice, but that assumes a lot of Planet 51, the least of which being that it has a surprisingly and refreshingly adult script and solid voice actors. Jessica Biel would not seem to fit that bill.

And until we get the chance to laugh at the monkey that will be Planet 51, head on over to Kwanzoo and get yourselves properly reacquainted with all the science fiction trivia.
