Preseason Week 2: The modern day “Broadway”

There have been 15 NFL preseason games played in the last four days and everyone is still talking about “Broadway Brett” and the Jets.

I decided to sport my Brett Favre jersey on Friday at the Hilton in Las Vegas, and once again it drew a lot of attention. In the lobby one guy started singing a rendition of “Benny and the Jets” using the name Bretty instead. A group of women even cursed the Jets. They were Packers fans.

On Saturday, Favre’s arm appeared well rested as he completed 5 of 6 passes for 48 yards. The three-time MVP threw his first touchdown pass as a Jet but it wasn’t enough to beat the Washington Redskins in New York.

Would you believe me if I told you that league’s leader in passing yards prior to tomorrow’s Monday night game is a Jets player with the first name Brett? Probably not, but Brett Ratliff is at the top of the charts with 400 passing yards.

Is it possible that the twenty-three-year-old rookie is trying to compete for the starting quarterback job for the Jets? Not likely, but Ratliff is putting up some big numbers.

In other news, Chad Johnson of the Cincinnati Bengals had to leave today’s game against the Detroit Lions due to a strained left shoulder that occurred in the first series of the game. A five-time Pro Bowl selection, “Ocho-Cinco” is expected to return for the Bengals first game of the regular season. The Bengals are pretty banged up and if they don’t get healthy soon it could be a very long season for the team.

Also on Saturday, The Minnesota Vikings playoff hopes may have been flushed down the drain as quarterback Tarvaris Jackson had to leave the game early against the Baltimore Ravens due to a sprained medial collateral knee ligament. He should return in time for opening day, but a preseason injury is never beneficial.
