As the man whose job it is to convince people that a deadly substance isn’t dangerous, Nick Naylor, played by Aaron Eckhart, harbors no delusions about what he does. While trying to instill his son with a moral code, he must cope with the hostility he finds around every corner.

On the set of Thank You for Smoking, Rob Lowe only worked for one day to film all of his character’s scenes.

Sam Elliot insisted on carrying a rifle rather than the shotgun, as was scripted for his character. He even brought is own rifle to the shoot.

Film rights to the novel Thank You for Smoking were sold in the early 90’s, and Mel Gibson was slated to play the lead.
