The Political Landscape Has Lots of Weird Bumps–Darth Vader

Well, it was probably only a matter of time before it came down to this…but someone–ostensibly the Sith party–has put together their ultimate dream ticket of Vader / Tarkin for 2008.  I guess the trend of having actors run for office has now extended to Star Wars characters.

TV Reruns to Head For Web–Probably A Bad Idea

Not for us, mind you–no, no, for us this coudn’t be better.  But where this concept poses a problem is to the networks themselves.

Just for some background, let me give you the rundown:

The X-Files Movie–Why I’d Rather Not Believe

Okay, I just got back not too long ago from watching the new X-Files movie. Subtitled “I Want To Believe”, it turned out fairly well, but nowhere near as well as it could have.  What separated this movie from greatness, you ask?  Simple.

They forgot their canon.

Ocean’s Eleven Star Bernie Mac In “Very, Very Critical” Condition

Sad news today out of Chicago, where Ocean’s Eleven star Bernie Mac is in what’s described as “very, very critical” condition battling an onset of pneumonia.

Bernie Mac’s publicist claims that things aren’t near as bad as they seem, saying the star is responding well to treatment, is expected to make a full recovery and should be released soon.

Forty Year Old Ghostbusting Virgins? Read On.

The news is that the next Ghostbusters movie–which if it ends up like the new X-Files movie will only make me hate Hollywood all the harder–is well on track, and has a new and interesting surprise in store.  Out of which I will now spoiler the hell.

The original cast–Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson–will all reprise their former roles, but, and this is where the previously alerted with maximum grammatical quality, they will in turn hand over their proton packs to a whole new generation of ghostbusters.

Lindsay Lohan Approaches Police Chief’s Comments With Urbane Wit and Sophistication

I couldn’t write the above headline without laughing, folks.  And if you can READ it without laughing then you’re stronger than I am.  Congratulations!

No, Lindsay Lohan recently dismissed the Los Angeles Chief of  Police’s comments about her “going gay”–in reference to her relationship (and rumored romance)  with DJ Samantha Ronson–not with a well-timed jab about, say, the LAPD taping other people for once instead of being taped themselves, or perhaps a short bon mot about being beaten or tazed or whatever excesses the LAPD’s been caught exercising in lately.

Worst Actresses Ever! King Magazine’s Got A List

And is it ever a list you don’t want to be on!  Especially if you’re a model turned actress, as are the victims of King Magazine’s list of worst performances turned in by a model turned actress.

The list is full of excellent choices, many of which I’ve seen, and thus I can offer commentary on them.

Netflix Beating Recession?

I’ve been saying it for some time now–people are looking for any way possible to save cash these days, and renting a movie is wildly, wildly cheaper than the horrorshow of expenditures that is the movie theatre these days.  Debatably, it’s also better, but what’s not debatable is that online video store Netflix is seeing spectacular gains in its bottom line, and some analysts say it’s due to exactly what I’ve been saying it is all along–people looking for a good cheap time that doesn’t depend on four dollar a gallon gas.

Welcome to the club, analysts–we have jackets.  Don’t forget to pay dues for the month. [Read more →]

Bean Canned! Lord of the Rings Actor Busted on Domestic Assault

Sean Bean, ladies and gentlemen, star of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, joins the latest in a growing string of (two) actors busted for assaulting loved ones in England.  Bean was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault and questioned by London police for six hours after Bean’s new wife Georgina filed a complaint, claiming that Bean “assaulted” her during a fight at their London home.

Oddly enough, she later completely dropped the charges and claimed, loudly and vociferously and verbatim, that she was fine and Sean was fine and everything was blown out of proportion and THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM BETWEEN THEM.

Lucas Continues Butchery of Star Wars Franchise

All right, Star Wars fans–I happen to count myself among them on a somewhat limited basis–I’ve got horrible news for you.  Apparently George Lucas hasn’t yet found enough ways to screw up the Star Wars saga, so he’s taking the whole thing one step farther into the cesspool by re-re-re-re-REreleasing the series…

…IN 3-D.
