And Then, The World Collapsed

December 3rd, 2008 Steve Anderson No comments

With a depression inches away and hurricanes and terrorists and pirates in Somalia and madmen running Iran and all the assorted whatnots and goings-on of the world around us, it’s hard to imagine how things could get any worse. Certainly, how things could get any weirder.

And then a new horror movie was announced.  This by itself would mean almost less than nothing–such things are announced every couple of hours without the world exploding.  So what’s got me so bent out of shape on this one?  SImple.  It’s the star of this particular horror movie, called Against The Dark, that’s set my head all a-spinning.

Blockbuster Sells Concert Tickets Now

December 3rd, 2008 Steve Anderson No comments

Remember what I was saying a couple months ago about Blockbuster getting just truly desperate?  Yeah…that hasn’t changed.  No, not at all.

They’ve allied themselves with LiveNation to start selling their concert tickets in Blockbuster outlets.  For the next three years, Blockbuster will have exclusive blocks of seating to various concerts and kick back a portion to LiveNation.  And the funny part is?  It’s not just Blockbuster’s desperation driving this deal–it’s Hannah Montana.

Twilight Faded

December 3rd, 2008 Steve Anderson 3 comments

Call it schaudenfreude if you must, folks, but I’m all sorts of tickled that that miserable piece of crap of a vampire film, Twilight, is losing a whole LOT of steam at the box office.

How much is “a whole lot”, you ask?

We Wish You a Kwanzoo Christmas: Home Alone 2

December 3rd, 2008 Liz N. No comments

No, I assure you that it is not cheating to do different articles for Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. For one thing, despite sharing similar themes, they are completely different and distinct movies. For another, Home Alone 2 deals with a different - and equally important - aspect of Christmas.

The tree.

Planet of the Apes Prequel?

December 2nd, 2008 Steve Anderson No comments

Apparently, they’ve got a writer for the Planet of the Apes prequel, a move that has me somewhat baffled.

They’ll be bringing in Scott Frank, formerly of Minority Report, to handle the scripting duties on that one, suggesting that if nothing else the script should turn out solidly enough.  But that’s not where my concern is–my concern is in the existence of this movie in the first place.

You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out, Kid…Twenty Five Years Later

December 1st, 2008 Steve Anderson No comments

Now, normally, Liz is all over this sucker like the feds on my wallet, but I couldn’t help but throw in my own on this one.

This year is special, you see–it’s the twenty-fifth anniversary of a fantastic Christmas movie release called A Christmas Story, and every year I watch it it just keeps getting better.

Bad News: After Dark Horrorfest Looks To Suck

December 1st, 2008 Steve Anderson No comments

It really hurts me to have to bear this particular lump of bad news, folks…especially after two solid years of mostly excellent films making it to the After Dark Horrorfest.

But this time just might be the low water mark, and horror movies will never be the same for it.

We Wish You a Kwanzoo Christmas: Home Alone

December 1st, 2008 Liz N. No comments

It’s December First, and that means two things. Firstly, Christmas is coming. Secondly, it’s my one-month anniversary. Only one of these things matters to you, though, so let’s get on with the Christmas movie stuff.

Remember when you were about twelve or thirteen and your parents started leaving you home alone without a babysitter or your grandma? Wasn’t it great? I think one of my main motivations for taking a babysitting class was to demonstrate to my parents that I was ready to take care of myself. I hated babysitting. But all I wanted was to be home alone.

We Wish You a Kwanzoo Christmas: The Muppet Christmas Carol

December 1st, 2008 Liz N. No comments

Drawn from the almost-forgotten tradition of telling ghost stories around the Yule Log, Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol is a story that you just can’t have Christmas without. And what better way to enjoy it than with muppets?

And Michael Caine?
