Movie Trivia: See It Where It All Started–Dawn of the Dead at Monroeville Mall

No, seriously! It’s TRUE! I can scarcely believe it myself, and if I were actually looking to go to Pennsylvania any time soon I’d swing by just for the sheer coolness factor involved here. You see, the mall where they shot Dawn of the Dead–the original, not that second-rate suck-farm that was the remake–is an actual mall. It’s called the Monroeville Mall, and it’s located in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.

It’s said that many of the original features–like wall displays, and of course the fountain–can still be found in full operational condition in the Monroeville Mall, and this lends a special and very unique opportunity to see a piece of horror film history first-hand. Which is why it makes especial sense to note that the HorrorHound Weekend crew will be putting on the first-ever showing of Dawn of the Dead at the Monroeville Mall.

Movie Trivia: Picturehouse Abandoned, Warner Independent Locked Up

I genuinely do NOT know what to make of this, folks. I’m abundantly confused. The puzzlement shoots through my soul like bolts of lightning as I announce that Picturehouse, the guys who handled Pan’s Labyrinth, and Warner Independent are both offline. Seventy people lost their jobs, and what does this all mean?

Warner Brothers President and Chief Operating Officer Alan Horn would have you believe this line of drivel: [Read more →]

Movie Trivia: No Mo Lo…han. At Least Not In Manson Girls.

It may be a sign of some logic getting introduced to Hollywood, or just a sign that the universe hates Lindsay Lohan almost as much as most of humanity, but Lindsay Lohan is, as of right now, no longer involved in the upcoming Manson Girls film.

Naturally, Lindsay Lohan had a ready excuse for why she’s no longer involved in the Manson Girls film–apparently, she just had SO MUCH going on that she needed to move along and, you know, do that stuff that was, apparently, calling. Or something like that.

Movie Trivia: Romero’s Legendary “Bub” Comes Back From the Dead–Again??

This news is somewhat weird, but for Romero fans, it will absolutely blow your mind. I realize the headline somewhat gives it all away, but let me run it down for you.

Way back in the long-long-ago that was the 1980s, George Romero released what horror buffs thought would be his last zombie film, Day of the Dead. Though no one HOPED it would be his last, and indeed, it was not to be, it was still his last zombie movie for around about two decades. And in Day of the Dead, Romero introduced the “character” of Bub. Bub was a zombie that was being trained for domestication, and– far be it from me to spoiler!–it did NOT end well.

Movie Trivia: Donnie Darko Two–It Exists.

This next item will prove to be beyond all logic and reason, but I tell you, based on several different reports, it is true.

There will be a second Donnie Darko, and there’s a real good chance that there will not be any Donnie in it. Check out an actual report on the plot: [Read more →]

Movie Trivia: Ladies, Lock Up Your Closets–Lindsey Lohan Lurks

That Lindsey Lohan, man…she’s one scary individual. And not just because of the sheer array of horrible movies she’s been in (even if Herbie: Fully Loaded will scare you green for its sheer existence), but rather because of her baffling and utterly inexplicable content off camera.

Recently, model Lauren Hastings–currently dating Shia LeBeouf of Transformers–gave Inside Edition a story that surprised very few. While hosting a party that Lohan attended, Hastings discovered her closet had been completely emptied out. Naturally, Lohan rebuffed Hastings’ claims when confronted with them, calling Hastings “pathetic” and “completely delusional” among other things. And the Los Angeles County prosecutors refused to press charges on Lohan either, citing lack of evidence.

Movie Trivia: Stacie Ponder–Horror’s Calendar Girl

Again, the always charming Stacie Ponder has come back with a new and fresh look at the horror industry, and once again, she’s got a list. The lady knows her horror, no doubt, so when she came out with a list for the best horror films for each month of the year, my interest was piqued.

And for the most part, I actually found myself agreeing with her. Oh sure, it’s next to impossible to find an actual horror movie for Thanksgiving (the fact that she found one is even scarier than the film she found!). But this wouldn’t be much of a blog entry if I didn’t swing in and do a little Monday-morning quarterbacking on Stacie Ponder’s fantastic list. So off I go!

Movie Trivia: David–Twisted Pictures Gets One Right??

Now I’m getting scared.

Really scared—check out this quote about David, an upcoming film “inspired by true events”:

“I wanted to bring horror back to it’s roots like horror in the 70’s when they set out to really scare you psychologically. David is a cross between The Amityville horror and The Changeling. This isn’t the going to be the typical MTV style of horror of today with lots of quick cuts and loud noises to make the audience jump. David is all about slowly building the suspense factor then climaxing to a really disturbing final act. It’s the kind of story that burrows deep under your skin and stays with you long after you left the theater”.

Movie Trivia: Big Brother Blockbuster

Thank you, Blockbuster Video. Thank you for sheltering our fragile little minds from events and depictions that just might warp them. Thank you for being parent, guardian, and Big Brother to legally emancipated adults over the age of eighteen who SHOULD be able to watch whatever they damn well please, you miserable sons of—-

Oh! Hi! Didn’t see you there. Well, you came in on sort of the back end of the party, so let me fill you in on why I’m screaming vitriolic fury at Blockbuster Video this week.

Movie Trivia: Last Gasp–The Greatest Horror Exit Lines

You’ve got to love Stacie Ponder…one of AMC Monsterfest’s biggest new voices keeps pumping out the interesting stuff, and this time, she’s got a great piece on some of the great closing lines. From Halloween’s “It was the Boogeyman” to Friday the 13th’s “He’s still out there!”, there’s lots of good ones on her list, even some slightly lesser known stuff like Session 9.

But of course, I’m not just here to kiss Stacie Ponder’s tukhus—I think she’s missed a couple good ones, and so, I’m going to be nice enough to fill in her list, and cover her catastrophic losses.
