T.V. Trivia: “Sopranos” Home Movies? David Chase Goes to Hollywood
For many, the first glimpse of Tony Soprano leaning back in Dr. Jennifer Melfi’s office was the beginning of a years-long love affair with one of HBO’s most popular original series. Real-life fans of The Sopranos include mafia, FBI agents, and viewers like you - very few people can find something bad to say about it.
Show creator David Chase, who had previously worked on shows like The Rockford Files and Northern Exposure, finally gained notoriety as the brains behind this hit series. An Italian-American like his most famous characters, Chase (nĂ© DeCesare) suffered under the yolk of oppressive parents; his “drama queen” of a mother would later serve as the main inspiration for the character of Livia Soprano.
