November 17th, 2008 Steve Anderson No comments

The networks have more reason than ever before to cringe, as viewerships on even some of their best shows like Heroes are slipping.

Seems the viewers are packing it up and going with cable instead. Read more…

SNL: 11/15/08 “My enemies call me nothing cause they DEAD!”

November 17th, 2008 Liz N. No comments

The election buzz is over, and NBC really needs their ratings. So on this most recent SNL, they pulled out the big guns: Paul Rudd.

He may be B-list, or even C-list, but nobody doesn’t know that adorable face from Clueless, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, The Oh in Ohio…okay, so nobody except me saw the last one. But my point stands: people love Paul Rudd. I love Paul Rudd. He’s adorable. At 39, he can still pass for 20.

The Office: “Business Trip”

November 15th, 2008 Liz N. No comments

If you follow “The Office,” chances are, you’ve been waiting impatiently for Angela and Dwight to get back together. Being engaged to someone else has never been an obstacle to romance before on this show, so her impending marriage to Andy really shouldn’t have any bearing on things. Should it? Surely, it will end. And end badly.

The first seeds were sown in this latest episode, “Business Trip.” But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Sunny in Philly: “The Gang Gets Extreme: Home Makeover Edition”

November 15th, 2008 Liz N. No comments

It’s started to get to the point where “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” is losing its credibility. I know, I know. It never really had any to begin with. But while most of the premises in the past have begun with some sort of reasonable jumping-off point, but these days it’s pretty ridiculous.

In “The Gang Gets Extreme,” Dee has explained principles of a self-help book she read to the guys. Each of them is making a “vision board,” which is basically a collage of things they wish to one day have or achieve. But when Dee explains that they need to do good deeds in order to get what they desire, the gang, inspired by Charlie’s aspiration to be like Ty Pennington, decide to do an Extreme Home Makeover on one of their neighbors.

30 Rock: “The One with the Cast of Night Court”

November 14th, 2008 Liz N. No comments

Given that “30 Rock” needs desperately to expand its audience - that is, unless it wants to get canceled - they’re really not bringing out their A-game the way you might expect. I’m sure that this episode is very very funny if you are a Night Court fan, but if you haven’t seen it, the B plot won’t be of any interest to you.

The A plot is kinda funny, but it relies heavily on Jennifer Aniston rather than our beloved protagonist Liz. She plays Claire, Liz’s former roommate from Chicago, who is fun-loving to the point of exhaustion. Also, she is as destructive to men as she is seductive - something Jack very quickly learns.

South Park–Elementary School Musical. So You Can’t Win ‘Em All….

November 14th, 2008 Steve Anderson 1 comment

All right, so it’s another week and another episode of South Park has come and gone.

“Lipstick,” “Enemy” Newest Casualties of T.V. Slump

November 14th, 2008 Liz N. No comments

If you have been watching NBC at all in the past four months or so, you’ve probably caught a few ads for the Christian Slater espionage drama “My Own Worst Enemy.” It didn’t look that good, but so what? People watch terrible dramas all the time. You know, critics claim that The Sopranos changed TV drama forever, but I don’t think most of it has advanced much beyond the ER stage. Which is nothing in particular against ER, it’s just…it’s just been the same for several decades. I figured that if Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles does well, then My Own Worst Enemy at least had a shot.

Guess I was wrong.

Fringe: “In Which We Meet Mr. Jones”

November 13th, 2008 Liz N. No comments

Well, we got a new episode of “Fringe” this week. Finally. And this episode only solidifies my concept of the “Fringe Formula,” which I imagine as going somewhat like this:

1. Think of something really gross that could happen to the human body
2. Make it science-y
3. ?????
4. Profit!

This week’s gross-out is a big ol’ parasite wrapped around a guy’s heart. It kind of looks like a centipede. It’s throwing tentacles all over the place, screwing up his heart, et cetera et cetera. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve started to lose interest in the show, but from what I gathered, they traced the parasite back to some guy who is imprisoned in total isolation in Germany. For whatever reason.

As I write, it is 5:35 AM and I am thoroughly enjoying a film called “Vegas Vampires” on TMC. Just to give you an idea of the kind of film we’re dealing with here, please enjoy the following trailer:

Yep, that’s pretty much it.

Score One More for Online TV: Sunny Days…

November 12th, 2008 Liz N. 2 comments

I don’t actually remember this, but I have it on good authority that when I was a kid, the only thing that would calm me down was the opera episode of Sesame Street. Can’t recall anything about the episode. I’m not even sure if it really exists, or if it was the product of my mom’s fevered imagination. But I do remember watching Sesame Street, back before they made the theme song all “urban” and terrible. I remember loving it dearly and barely understanding many of the jokes (Ross Parrot. What an obscure reference).

Now, Sesame Street is coming to the internet.
