The latest trend of musical games brings with it a variety of instrument perpetual for every console. I’m not sure about the rest of the gaming community, but my living room is already looking crowded.

The split between Guitar Hero and Rock Band means two new music themed games being created simultaneously, Guitar Hero IV and Rock Band 2. Luckily, it was announced recently that the original Rock Band instruments work for not only the sequel, but for Guitar Hero IV as well. Even without the need for new peripherals, there are a plethora of new options popping up in anticipation of the Guitar Hero IV and Rock Band 2.

Some good news and some bad news on that remake of Dead Rising for the Wii.

The good news is the game got a nice new name for its North American release. Instead of Dead Rising: Zombie Sacrifice, it’s going to be Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop.

Capcom announced that they’re bringing a remake of Dead Rising to the console with some significant changes. One of the changes is probably good, and one is probably bad.

Nintendo of Europe’s managing director Laurent Fischer has apologized for a comment he made about only “geeks and otaku” caring about the smallness of the Wii’s 512 megabyte storage space. That half-gig is all that Wii owners can save Virtual Console and new WiiWare games on.

So it’s kind of too bad he apologized, because I was going to explain why offering a storage expansion would make sense for Nintendo, aside from the snafu of calling your most enthusiastic customers obsessive shut-ins with smelly feet.

GameSetWatch has an article up on designing for WiiWare, using the new game LostWinds as its case study.

WiiWare is Nintendo’s entry into the direct download market, a space already occupied by Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. You could already purchase classic games on the Wii’s Virtual Console, but like its competitors, WiiWare features brand new games.

This is old news by now, but I wanted to mention it here, because it is hilarious.

Okami was recently re-released for the Wii, giving the quirky little game a second lease on life after its disappointing showing on the PS2. Its brushstroke mechanic seems custom-made for the Wii, so plenty of people were glad to see it.

But when people took a look at the official box art for the game, they noticed something a little… odd.

The future of the Wii is an object shrouded in mystery–what new features will it have? What can we do with it? Will there be any decent games released for once, and will they finally, FINALLY, manage to look as good as PS3 and Xbox 360 titles?

The answer to any of these questions is the same. We don’t really know. But a recent tech demo has given us something to play with. Headed by Johnny Lee, it seems that they’ve found a way to incorporate head tracking movements into a system, including the upcoming game Boom Blox, before that feature was removed. The fact that it existed to BE removed in the first place suggests firmly that it could be brought back. Even more interesting is a virtual whiteboard for use with the Wii, as well as a whiteboard with multi-touch capability akin to an iPhone.

I’m still laughing at Big N–with these guys, I’m quite convinced it’s either feast or famine. One minute it’s sheer brilliance, the next a move of colossal stupidity. And now, the slapstick is out in full force as we discover that it’s not just Super Smash Brothers Brawl that has the disc read problems.

It’s Mario Kart Wii too.

Have you ever wondered what that stingray felt like as it jammed the lethal barb into Steve “The Crocodile Hunter” Irwin?  Ever wonder what’s going through the minds of those killer bees jamming smooth stingers repeatedly into their target with no fear of disembowelment? 

 If you are, you may need professional help, but THQ is desperately hoping you’re interested in launching some wrath of nature all on your own.  Dubbed Deadly Creatures, the early word on this sucker is that you’ll get to play as a tarantula and as a scorpion, off to wreak buggy havoc on a scale never before imagined–the backyard.  You might even–the word is way too early to do much more than speculate–use your buggy abilities to help police solve crimes.  How, I can’t imagine, but I guess anything’s possible when you come right down to it.
