Strange news afoot from a former Hobbit alumnus—Viggo Mortenson, Aragorn himself—is currently top of a short list to play Edgar Allen Poe in an upcoming horror flick.

No, this isn’t me enjoying an elaborate practical joke; I actually read it during one of my many news scavengings and I found it to be somewhat palatable. Let’s be honest—Viggo Mortenson is not by any stretch of the imagination a bad actor. His role as Aragorn was just sort of the icing on an already solid cake that included titles like Carlito’s Way, Crimson Tide and several others.

He even has a horror movie to his credit already—not much of one, granted, it’s just a Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel and pretty much everybody has appeared either in one or near one at some point. There were enough of them. And with all the rest of the huge body of experience Mortenson has, I can’t help but think he’ll acquit himself well as the drunken lunatic who fantasized about beating hearts and stalker birds and guys who got sealed up in giant wine casks.
