Raymond’s Brother Seeks Love Online

So it seems that Brad Garrett, formerly known as the brother from Everybody Loves Raymond, is fixing to become the next Blind Date star.

(By the way, “fixing to” is a phrase that doesn’t get used nearly often enough, outside of the south.)

Using his midlife crisis as an excuse, he is planning to star in and produce his own blind dating show, with himself as the hunky prize. Ten lucky ladies will be chosen from a horde of video auditions, and then I guess they’ll earn their fifteen minutes of internet fame and be sent home. I can’t imagine that anything productive will come of it, such as possibly marrying a B-list actor.

The show will air on many popular sites, such as Hulu.com. I should be happy about this. I should be glad that internet dating is becoming more and more legitimate every day, to the point where our children’s children might not bother meeting in bars anymore. I should be glad, because of my own personal connection to finding true love online.

Yeah, I met my fiancé on the internet.

Personally, I think it’s ridiculous to assume that you can judge a couple based on how and where they met. If it were anything but the internet, no one would give it a second glance. But people get suspicious when you mention Those There Intarwebs, because it’s thought that people can easily misrepresent themselves.

No offense, but if your spidey sense is so off-kilter that you could hook up with a psychopath over the internet, you’re probably not having stellar success in the real life either. Photographs, phone calls, and long conversations are pretty hard to fake. Every day, I hear and read stories of people finding out that their fiancĂ©s had kids and wives that they didn’t know about, or criminal pasts that had been hidden - and they met face-to-face. Forgive me, but I don’t think the internet is a den of lies and corruption.

So I guess I should fully support Brad Garrett’s new show. I’m sure it will be a lot of fun for everyone involved.
