Rock Band 2 song list released
I haven’t been too excited about Rock Band 2, despite loving the original. After all, if you can just buy new songs online, what’s the point of a sequel? The new premium drum set is nice enough, but it’s $300.
However, the Rock Band 2 song list has made me reconsider. Not only is it enormous, there’s also great stuff on there. Consider:
Bob Dylan: “Tangled Up in Blue” - Yes, Bob Dylan is rock. He went electric. It was kind of a big deal. Look it up. Besides, whatever his genre status is, “Tangled Up in Blue” is one of the best songs ever.
Rage Against the Machine: “Testify” - RATM is the ultimate source for dunting electric guitars, and they haven’t showed up in Rock Band yet. DUNT DUNT DUNT DUNT.
Talking Heads: “Psycho Killer” - It never would have occured to me to put Talking Heads in a rhythm game, but man am I glad it occured to someone at Harmonix.
Devo: “Uncontrollable Urge” - I actually had to look on YouTube for this one, only to have one of those “Oh, it’s THAT song” moments. I think you’ll agree it’s pretty raucous.
Motorhead: “Ace of Spades” - Really just an essential.
And I know at least one person who’s going to be pretty happy about Dinosaur Jr.’s inclusion.
This is why I’ve always preferred Rock Band over the post-Harmonix Guitar Heros. It’s just so obviously made by people who love music in all of its forms that their enthusiasm bleeds through.

“Tangled Up in Blue” was the name of my first blog, when I was just a little baby child. My dad also used to quote “Psycho Killer” a lot, although I’m pretty sure he once claimed it was by Pink Floyd.
Awesome song list. I haven’t made the leap from Guitar Hero to Rock Band yet, but someday…someday.
