“Rube Goldberg machines of death!”

bioshock-etch.jpgAll the time I have spent thinking about what direction 2K Marin would take Bioshock 2 in, and the most obvious question slipped through my mind cracks: will it be fun. Bioshock was easily one of the best games last year. It created a universe that was begging to be explored, a protagonist with a dark past and one of the coolest plot twists in gaming history. But the game, the core mechanics of running and shooting, were average. Could the next Bioshock be pure fun?

With Ken Levine laying on a couch somewhere in Boston, Bioshock 2 will have to spring from the mind of a different man: Jordan Thomas. The last time a new creative director took over a franchise with a motivated main character and one heck of a dark world was God of War II. It turned out to be the best game from last generation. Could we see a similar leap in Bioshock’s next foray?

I’m positively giddy thinking about the prospects, and it’s at least 18 months away! This isn’t good. But when someone mentions elaborate ways to finish off your foes, well, that just makes me squeal with anticipation.
