SAG Can’t Keep It Together In Face of Strike Vote

Remember the last time I wrote about the antics of the Screen Actors’ Guild, plotting to go on strike in the face of the worst economic conditions since the Great Depression and said this would be funny if it weren’t so sad and if the AMPTP weren’t also staring down a lawsuit from the Writers’ Guild of America as well?

Well, it’s about to get EVEN FUNNIER.

Seems a petition over at petition-online.org is making the rounds and has already taken in nearly fifteen thousand signatures, saying that striking now is a spectacularly stupid idea.  I went over to take a look at that petition, wondering if there were some major names that had signed it.  What I found was AMAZING.

First off, item 104.  Bill Murray.

Whether or not that’s the ACTUAL Bill Murray, well, there’s no way to tell, really.  But if that’s the same one from Ghostbusters and such, we know there’s some serious unpopularity with this action.  We’ve known that some of the bigger names had a problem with SAG’s tactics all along, but are we seeing it come to light right here?  Let’s keep going down the list!

Item 329, Ian Woolf. Ian identifies himself as the first assistant director for CBS’ Criminal Minds.

Item 1561, Anthony Cowley.  Anthony identifies himself as a member of the DGA, so that gives some corroboration to him being THIS Anthony Cowley.

Item 1884, Raul Davalos.  Raul signs himself Raul Davalos, ACE, lending credence to him being the same Raul Davalos of Dreamcatcher.

Item 2049, no less than Rob Zombie.

Item 2296 is, apparently,  Jeffrey Combs.

There are a few other names that might be recognizable, but they don’t clearly identify themselves like Ian Woolf did.  So there’s a big possibility that there’s a lot of support for SAG not to strike.

And this, frankly, makes sense.  Loath as I am to see the producers take advantage of anyone, the writers and directors and even AFTRA seemed to be just fine with the contract, and it’s been said a couple times that the SAG contract offer is nearly identical to that of everyone else’s.  So there’s a case here that there might be some greed going on, and now is, sadly, not the time for that.
