Shutter - Back For More On American Shores

Joshua Jackson from Scream, among othersIn what may be regarded as a strange move, Joshua Jackson of, among other things, Scream fame, will be back in force - and in theatres! - March 21st with Shutter.

I’ll admit, I’m rather excited about this news. I saw the original Shutter. I own a copy of the original Shutter and I found it to be one of the scariest movies I’d seen in a long time. It occupies a special place on my shelves and every so often I’ll take it out to be scared all over again. It’s a simple enough story - a photographer starts taking pictures and getting a whole lot worse than double exposures as he unravels a mystery and tries not to get killed by creepy, vengeful, angry demon-things.

It’s Asian horror fare at its best. Ghost stories are extremely common in Asian horror fare - the Japanese favor them, but the Korean and Chinese horror markets feature them pretty prevalently too. In fact, if it’s got a ghost in it, you can be at least somewhat sure that it’s got some connection to one of the major Asian horror markets.

And bringing in Joshua Jackson, who’s got more than a few horror chops to him, can’t be a bad idea.
