“Simpsons” Voices Holding Out for More Dough(nuts)
As some of the most recognizable characters on television, Matt Groening’s nuclear family is known for their yellow skin, their unfathomable hair, and, of course, their distinctive voices. After years of listening to the same cast of voice actors, fans won’t accept anything less. And that’s why the cast of The Simpsons is holding out for a little more money.
Well, a lot more. If inside reports are to be believed, the main cast could start earning $500,000 per episode - each. That’s nearly as much as actors on popular sitcoms who actually appear onscreen.
The holdup has already delayed production, which may cost us a few of the planned episodes for this season. Luckily for fans, though, it doesn’t seem like negotiations will reach a standstill. Supposedly the two sides are close to making the deal official. This marks the second major contract deal Fox has cut this year to assure a good animated lineup; a few months ago, Seth MacFarlane’s $100 million deal was much buzzed-about in the blogosphere.
And while nobody’s going to argue that the main voice cast is vital to the success of The Simpsons, it’s the guest talent that has provided many of the show’s classic episodes. From recurring guests like Albert Brooks to the one-time stars, they’ve all added something extra to the show. Remember….?
Alec Baldwin
(Bonfire of the Manatees)
As the manatee-crazy Dr. Thorn, Baldwin once again proved his comic chops. Not that he needed to, after being one of the most popular hosts of SNL.
Dustin Hoffman
(Lisa’s Substitute)
He almost made substitute teachers seem cool.
Winona Ryder
(Lisa’s Rival)
Lisa’s not the only preternaturally smart kid in town. As the other girl genius, Ryder gave Lisa a run for her money.
Mandy Patinkin
(Lisa’s Wedding)
Such a smooth, intelligent Brit surely deserves a mention - especially when he’s played by such a talented and unappreciated actor.
Lisa Kudrow
(Lard of the Dance)
Maybe Carrie would have gone better if they’d used pig lard instead of blood, like Lisa (Simpson) does to (Lisa) Kudrow.
