Slavedriver Ratner Fell Back To L.A. Making Rush Hour 3–French Too Lazy For Him.

The French have a rather interesting take on work–one that I’m sure a lot of working class folks around here would love to emulate.  For instance, it’s commonly said that it’s a bad idea to tour Paris in August as most of the city–indeed, most of the country–simultaneously packs up and heads for the southern coast en masse.

Brett Ratner, a man who should no longer allowed to make movies, ran into that laissez-faire spirit about working when he tried to film Rush Hour 3 (possible subtitle: The Shameless Cash-Grab) there.  And what he found, he didn’t like.  Check out the quote:

“We could only shoot eight hours a day because it was the law - the thirty hour work week in France. No overtime. It doesn’t matter if you offer them triple overtime, they will not work more.

“So it’s eight hour days and two hour lunches and wine service during lunch. Every crew member, in their contract, has a right to drink wine. So they have an open bottle of wine and they bring you an appetizer, a main course and then a dessert - service. It’s not like you go get your own food and you sit down. So basically I’m getting six hours a day shooting.

“So we decided we’ve got to go back to LA and build an extended (set of Paris).”

Basically, Brett Ratner did absolutely no homework.  He just looked at pictures of the Paris skyline, went into full “oooh, shiny!” mode and decided to film there.  Clearly, he neither knew nor gave rat’s ass about the French culture, and got upset when those lazy stinky bastards wouldn’t do what he WANTED!  Ratner then threw a temper tantrum and decided to go back to America, where he could work his staff like rented mules so he could afford luxury items.

Way to be a PHB, Brett.  Oh, and we all loved Rush Hour 3.  About as much as our root canals and toenail pulling.  Not to mention Rush Hour 2.

  1. The U.S. probably has more in common with France than any other country, prizing liberty, equality, heavy drinking and sending troops to southeast Asia. I think that’s why we seem to squabble so much. It’s like two brothers fighting because they remind each other of themselves.
