Square-Enix puts me in my place with Song Summoner
Dang, Square-Enix. I’m sorry I suspected you of canceling innovative games in place of Final Fantasy spinoffs. You pretty much shut me up by releasing Song Summoner.
Song Summoner is a $5 game available on the iTunes store exclusively for the iPod. The idea is, you turn the songs on your iPod into soldiers and use them as units in the RPG. Different songs make different kinds of units.
And here’s the kicker: You can strengthen your units by listening to the songs outside the game. That’s right, now even your morning commute can be part of the grind.
I’m a little too cheap to lay down the $5 for the game, even though I have an iPod that can support it. I’m one of those trendy assholes with an iPhone, and I’ll probably wait until a version comes out for that, now that Apple has opened up the platform.
But I have to be honest, it’s pretty tempting. I love music-based games, especially games that work from your music like Audiosurf and… well, I guess I only really know of Audiosurf.
