Still More National Treasure–Disney Announces Two.

There’s GOLD in them thar heads! And then, there’s more sequel news out from the great Mouse Empire–National Treasure, which just released a sequel, is looking at a third and even fourth in the series.

Granted, I liked the first National Treasure just fine, even if it was a bit watered down and would’ve played great in a high school social studies class. Any time a movie can actually use Daylight Savings Time as a plot device I don’t know whether to cringe in horror or applaud like no tomorrow. It’s never been done before but there’s probably an excellent reason why not.

Oh, yeah, that’s right…it’s because it’s DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME. It’s a trick of the calendar, not a plot device.

But anyway. Look…let’s be honest here. How many more “secrets” can reasonably be out there for Nic Cage and company to stumble over. The first one made him rich and the second one was some kind of diary for sitting presidents to put every national secret ever devised in.

Which is a stupid idea anyway…there’s this book, and all the secrets of the nation are inside it. Every President has access to it and can update it, and is indeed expected to update it. But it’s so hard to find that Nic Cage and company have to go tearing around half the planet to find it themselves? I mean, the hell? It’s so easy to reach that a President can make updates but the superrich have to embark on a QUEST to find it??

Eventually we’re going to get to the point where we have to leave the planet. There’s something on the moon. Then maybe the fourth one’s on Mars. By the time we get to the fifth one Nic Cage will be a starship pilot heading for Planet Bug to find George Washington’s secret giant wooden battlemech.

There’s got to be a point where you just lean back and say, whoa. Hey. Enough is enough. It was a killer ride but for crying out loud, we’re only getting more and more ridiculous with each passing sequel so let’s just put this pony out to pasture.

And meanwhile, we can all just sit back and enjoy our Disney movie trivia.
