Terminator Forever

TerminatorIt all began with a terrifying cyborg and some highly questionable time travel. Twenty-four years and three films later, The Terminator series has expanded to T.V. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles purports to cover the period of time between Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Though Terminator 3 states that nothing Terminator-related happened between the two films, through the miracle of time travel, producers were able to bring Sarah Connor back to possibly change the already-established future. Somehow. Bearing in mind, of course, that this is a franchise beginning with someone sending his own father back in time to conceive him.

The pilot of The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been made widely available online, at parties, on Fox, and even for troops overseas. Fans are excited, though some were underwhelmed. As someone who’s barely familiar with the films, I thought the pilot was rather dull, but that’s just my personal opinion.

The new Sarah Connor looks nothing like the old Sarah Connor, which is a blessing. Craiggy Linda Hamilton has been replaced by British bombshell Lena Headey, who is nevertheless somewhat irritating as the eponymous character. The obvious highlight is Firefly’s Summer Glau as Cameron; she is as graceful and mysterious as River Tam, and somewhat less crazy.

But even if The Chronicles turns out to be a failure, the Terminator series has one final…well…salvation in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. Rumored to be starring Christian Bale, this latest film will tell of John Connor’s adventures after Terminator 3. Little is known about the series at this time, but with the rumor mill churning it shouldn’t be long for its secrets are revealed.
