The Barrage of Plastic Instruments

Ion Drum RockerThe latest trend of musical games brings with it a variety of instrument perpetual for every console. I’m not sure about the rest of the gaming community, but my living room is already looking crowded.

The split between Guitar Hero and Rock Band means two new music themed games being created simultaneously, Guitar Hero IV and Rock Band 2. Luckily, it was announced recently that the original Rock Band instruments work for not only the sequel, but for Guitar Hero IV as well. Even without the need for new peripherals, there are a plethora of new options popping up in anticipation of the Guitar Hero IV and Rock Band 2.

One of the most enticing of the new instruments is Ion’s Drum Rocker. Not only can it be used for Rock Band 2, but with the purchase of a drum module it can be converted to an actual electronic drum set. If it wasn’t for the $299.99 price tag I would have mine pre-ordered by now.

Another advancement in music perpetuals is the new Rock Band guitar modeled after a fender Stratocaster with a mock starburst wood finish. Along with the aesthetic updates, the guitar features quieter fret buttons and a more realistic strum button.

With all the new plastic instrument controllers popping up I’m sure my living room and many others are doomed to look like a hurricane of plastic instruments just hit.
