The Best Quentin Tarantino Movie Ever

…has almost nothing to do with Quentin Tarantino

How do I know? Because I just found it on Yahoo, and my keyboard is currently soaked with drool.

It’s called Sukiyaki Western Django, and Quentin Tarantino will have a brief appearance or two therein.  But I’m still looking forward to it because 1. It has NOTHING to do with a movie created in the 1970s and 2. Quentin Tarantino’s not directing it. No sir or ma’am as the case may be, this one’s being directed by no less a personage than Master of Horror Takashi Miike.

The plot synopsis that’s been making the rounds from Wikipedia to the IMDB goes like this:

“Set a few hundred years after the Genpei War, the Minamoto and Taira gangs face off in a town named Yuta, while a deadly gunman comes to the aid of the townsfolk.”

And this admittedly simple description of the film as a whole frankly doesn’t do it justice.  Watching the trailer is an absolute slice of awesome cake with revolver shootouts and katana duels and somebody actually carrying a Gatling gun around like it were a rifle.  No, a GATLING gun, like the kind where the rate of fire is determined wholly by how fast you can work a hand crank.

And here’s the best part–this one’s actually coming to theatres in the States starting September 15th, so says the IMDB. The bad news is that the release will be of a limited nature…and thus, chances are, most of us won’t get a chance to see all the gunfighty glory until it hits video.  But buck up, folks…at least we’ll get to see it someday.
